The Magic Within You
Lately I've been thinking about the concept of "magic." (Perhaps this is because I've finally started reading Harry Potter, ya know, like 20 years late). Regardless, it's something that I'm beginning to believe we need more than ever, especially in times of political stress, personal struggle and economic uncertainty.
When I think of the word "magic," I also think of the concept of awe - the childlike feeling of actually noticing, with wonder, the incredible and miraculous things happening around us in a day. These things can be SO hard to see when we're in the midst of pain or struggle; yet - they persist, available to our consciousness every day, if we can become mindful enough to notice them. As ambitious Denver women, a lot of us are busy managing ALL THE THINGS. It's hard to slow down and we can become addicted to our busyness, which leads to anxiety.
Marianne Williamson wrote that, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us." I love this quote because it speaks to the immense power we hold within us; power that is accessible to us at any time - yet requires that we start first with believing that we even have it. THAT is where our focus and perspective starts to shift. And when our perspective shifts, that is where the magic begins. We start to feel the magic inside of us. We start to see it in the world - in flowers blooming. In a child's laughter. In the taste of a perfect muffin and latte. In the hope that holds us together and the eternal potential for good and kindness in each other's human hearts.
How might your life feel differently if you believed - like, believed deep in your bones - that you are powerful beyond measure, just as you are, right now? What might you attempt that you've been neglecting? Whom might you forgive? What could be let go of that perhaps is no longer serving you? What feelings and experiences might become accessible to you?
At Root Counseling, we believe wholeheartedly in magic - because we see it every. damn. day.
